Learning Together across Centuries and Cultures

What is an Italian-American expat doing in Germany writing about Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Well, that’s a long story, which I won’t delve into here. However, I am aware that my daily existence has me dancing in the interstices between cultures, national boundaries, and even centuries – on a daily basis I consult medical texts, some of which were written literally 2,000 years ago and a half-world away, in order to support clients in the here and now of 21st century Europe. I feel lucky to be able to do so, on so many levels!
Here in my blog I’d like to share with you a little bit of the medicine that I love, as well as the cultural, historical, and philosophical roots underpinning that medicine. I do not claim to be a scholar, however – just a humble student. I am also not Asian, obviously, which I think is an important distinction – I did not grow up in any of the cultures or eras that gave rise to all the threads that eventually wove themselves into the fabric of what is today called TCM. I came to the medicine from the outside, purely out of love, and I feel myself a guest as well as student.
Are you a guest, too? Great! As one guest to another, I will try to point out some things I have learned about this beautiful house, this lovely food, the wonderful music playing in the background – and then, ultimately point you to the owners of the house for more information. (So to speak.) I’ll try to cite my sources as much as possible and offer links where I can find them. If you have more questions, please check out some of those sources. Or of course call or book an appointment online with me to discuss how any of this might relate to your own personal health!
